Robbers' Roost: POD Progress

Robbers' Roost BANG! card game POD Sheet 1

Now that Blogger is back up after over 24 hours of being in Read Only mode (although I have noticed that Blogger has yet to restore some post changings and comments made in the past 2 days), I thought that I would post some progress on making a POD version of Robbers' Roost. I am definitely working on getting this out in a reasonable time frame, so those looking to get their own copy should look up! Posted above is a picture of the first card sheet for the POD that I have designed. You should notice that the cards are arranged to the bottom right, in preparation for the cards being trimmed. I will likely work on getting a prototype that I can get mailed to me without getting trimmed, so that I can first focus on any necessary color adjustments. Then, I will work on getting the card trimming in order. I will keep you posted!

  3. Thanks for all your effort in working on these expansions. Ordered a set of Death Mesa, looking forward to getting those in the post. Hope the color for Robber's Roost turns out well. I can't believe DaVinci games hasn't approached you about making these sets official, they look totally awsome.

  4. I will work very hard on the colors! At least where it counts--the backs of the cards. Until I am satisfied with those I will not release Robbers' Roost to the public. I am a little curious as to whether there is any color differentiation with the backs across editions. That could create a whole new level of difficulty, although I am not certain whether I should worry about it.

  5. Anthony, thank you for your kind remarks, and I am happy you ordered a copy of Death Mesa. I hope it turns out to your satisfaction. As for DaVinchi, I can't blame them for not being interested in some "punk kid"'s expansions. And the expansions are not in Italian yet for them to really grasp them. The CEO has written me to worry about copyright infringement, and I have tried to take very cautious steps so that I do not. Perhaps if these expansions are refined and become popular, some of the card ideas will trickle down into some official BANG! expansions in the future. That would be an honor.

  6. ...Where are the health bullets on these cards?

  7. Good eye; the bullets are not on the card sheet yet since I have not yet finished the card sheet!

  8. do you know about when the POD will be done? will it be done by the end of June? or hopefully sooner in the month of June?

  9. I am thinking end of June, but we will see. It depends on getting those worked out with the POD. I'll keep you posted.

  10. I just noticed: Porter Rockwell is a straight upgrade from Doc Holiday (which is the same, except within range as opposed to any player).

  11. Hey Hitman, I could see why you might think that Porter Rockwell is a straight upgrade, but he is not. The Dodge City FAQ spells out something very important for Doc Holyday: His "ability does not count towards his limit of one BANG! card per turn." Thus, Doc Holyday can play a BANG!, and then discard 2 other cards to play another BANG! in the same turn. Rockwell cannot do this.

In the Robbers' Roost Guidebook, I note the following about Porter Rockwell:

He may discard 2 cards to fire a BANG! at any player, regardless of distance. This BANG! does contribute to his BANG! limit. With the 2 cards Rockwell draws a turn, he is almost always able to fire at any player. Porter Rockwell is a lot like Doc Holyday, with some distinctive differences. First, Rockwell’s BANG! can reach any player, while Holyday’s BANG! only can reach players in range. Holyday’s two cards must be discarded from his hand, while Rockwell’s can be discarded from his hand or from in play in front of him. Holyday’s BANG! does not contribute to his 1 BANG! a turn limit, while Rockwell’s does. One of Holyday’s discarded cards must be a non-diamond to create a BANG! that affects Apache Kid; Rockwell’s cards do not. Holyday can only use his ability during his turn. Rockwell may use this ability out of turn to respond to other’s abilities or cards (to respond to Duels, Indians!, Flint Dixon’s attack, etc.).

Now, you may think that Rockwell is still better than Holyday, but he is not a straight upgrade. I can try to balance his ability more if you think he is still much better.

  12. Oh, my mistake. I read "does" as "doesn't". That does make more sense, especially when you explain it like that. That seems fine for balance, much better than what I thought it meant.

  13. As there does not seem to be any hope that this will be updated anytime soon, I am looking to create the POD files for Robber's Roost myself.

Martin if you see this post, I have a great deal of Photoshop experience and would do my best to get a workable product posted to my google drive if you could email me the files you've started on.
