Robbers' Roost Characters: Chuck Parkhurst, Fannie Porter, & Big Nose Kat

NOTE: Now that RR has gone through significant revisions, all these characters have been eliminated. This post is kept here for historical purposes (tracking RR's development) alone. For the characters actually in the RR expansion, go the official page.

Today I thought it might be nice to take a break from the strategy guides and add some more Robbers' Roost characters. I am adding so many I will probably have to widdle them down, or I suppose I could just leave that up those who want to play with the characters. Anyway, I have three female characters to showcase now. I particularly like Chuck Parkhurst. You will have to let me know what you think. Oh, and the art used for these characters is borrowed; not my own.

Chuck Parkhurst Robber's Roost Character
Chuck Parkhurst. 4 Life Points. Once per round, she has a free BANG! that does not add to her card limit. Turn your character card sideways to indicate when you have this BANG! When it is used, turn the card back to its normal vertical position. These BANG! do not stockpile.

Fannie Porter Robber's Roost Character
Fannie Porter. 4 Life Points. Anytime she is attacked by a card where she is the sole target, "draw!" On clubs, discard a card from the player who attacked her.

Big Nose Kat Robber's Roost Character
Big Nose Kat. 4 Life Points. Anytime she hits a player who was her sole target that player must discard a card from his hand.

  1. I don't think Chuck is going to work as well as you hoped. I have a character named Jake the Ripper (4 life) that was granted one free BANG! per on the premise that he could only use it at a range of one (this of it as an implied Pugnale! played at the end of each previous turn, hence the name). Even with that, the players I tested it with said that it was a little unfair. I have now changed him to a mutation of Doc Holiday, wherein he may use any single card as a Pungo! once per turn (as opposed to Doc's two for a BANG!). The idea of a free Bang, regardless of application, seems a little tipsy on the balance scale. I had the to give Jake only three life and his original ability, but I'm happy with the four life variant.

  2. You know, you have a good point. It seems a little strange for her to have an ability that is straight up much better than Doc Holiday's. Even though BANG! cards are very common, I didn't think it was that off balance. I still like the idea of a free card not in the limit. Perhaps I shall make it defensive for Chuck: she has a free Missed! not contributing to her limit each round (not stackable) and she has only 3 health instead.

  3. I agree, it's interesting. I'm looking at characters like Jourdonnais and Willy the Kid who have implied, free cards and that is their ability. But for free, non-equipment cards, the price seems much steeper, a la Doc Holiday with Bang! and Sid Ketchum with Birra. Your new idea sounds like a good one though, even weighing it against Elena Fuente: at most you could keep 3 cards, the fourth card would be that implied Missed! That actually sounds like a good deal.
